During a safety training, a pilot wanted to deploy his parachute,
which was packed in a Tube-Container integrated in a Skyline Phase harness.
Although trying several times he did not succeed.
Finally the paraglider got out of control.
The pilot hit the water in a spiral dive and got heavily bruised by the impact.
The examination of the harness by the DHV and the analysis of the film footage
of the accident revealed that the deployment of the parachute in such a harness
with a Tube-Container is very hard or impossible if the release handle is pulled
in a certain direction.
If the pull to get the inner container out of the Tube is in an angular
direction upwards and to the front, as in picture 2, the velcro fastener
of the outer container flap, loaded on shear now, prevents a complete
opening of the outer container.
The inner container with the parachute gets stuck in the velcroed flaps
of the outer container; the deployment of the parachute is blocked.
Pulling out the inner container in any other direction is easy possible,
pulling direction as in picture 1 is recommended.

If the pull to get the inner container out of the Tube is in an angular
direction upwards and to the front, the velcro fastener blocks the opening
of the container flaps.

On the harnesses Skyline Phase and Project Bi,
the velcro which is responsible for the blocking of the outer container
(see picture 3)
has to be made ineffective from the front corner to the beginning of
the handle (ca 11cm).
This is done by a velcro counterpart, which is put on or by removing the velcro.

Lors d'un stage sécurité, un pilote a essayé de lancer son secours plié
dans un conteneur tube intégré à une sellette Skyline.
Il n'y est pas parvenu malgré plusieurs tentatives.
Le parapente est rentré en spirale et le pilote à eu de sévères
contusions à l'impact dans l'eau.
L'examen de la sellette par le DHV et l'analyse du film de l'accident ont
montré que l'extraction du secours de ce type de conteneur est difficile
voir impossible si la poignée est tirée dans une certaine direction.
Si la poignée est tirée vers le haut et l'avant (Image 2), le velcro du
rabat infèrieur travaille en cisaillement et empèche l'ouverture totale
du conteneur externe (tube).
Le conteneur interne du parachute reste bloqué dans le tube,
et on ne peut pas le lancer pour déployer.
Si l'on tire dans un autre direction, tout se passe bien,
mais la direction préconisée (Image 1) reste la meilleure.

Le fabricant de la sellette,
Skyline Flight Gear GmbH,
a demandé la publication de cette note sécurité:
Sur les sellettes Skyline "Phase" et "Project Bi",
le velcro responsable du blocage du conteneur externe (Image 3)
doit être rendu inopérant depuis le coin avant jusqu'à la poignée (11 cm).
Ceci peut être fait en collant un autre velcro dessus, ou en le
retirant complètement.

Gurtzeug für Gleitsegel :

Bei einem Sicherheitstraining wollte eine Pilotin ihr Rettungsgerät,
welches in einem Skyline Phase mit Tube-Container integriert war auslösen.
Trotz mehrfacher Versuche gelang ihr dies nicht.
Schließlich geriet ihr Gleitschirm außer Kontrolle.
In einer Spiraldrehung stürzte die Gleitschirmfliegerin ins Wasser
und zog sich beim Aufprall schwere Prellungen zu.
Die Untersuchung des Gurtzeuges durch den DHV und die Auswertung des auf Video
aufgezeichneten Absturzes hatten zum Ergebnis, dass die Rettungsgeräteauslösung
bei den genannten Gurtzeugen mit Tubecontainern bei Zug des Griffes
in eine bestimmte Richtung stark erschwert bzw. unmöglich ist.
Erfolgt der Zug zum Herausziehen des Innencontainers schräg nach vorne oben, wie
in Abbildung 2, verhindert der hierdurch auf Scherung wirkende Klettverschluss
der Außencontainerlasche ein vollständiges Öffnen des Außencontainers.
Der Innencontainer mit dem Rettungsschirm verhakt sich in den zugekletteten
Blättern des Außencontainers, die Freisetzung des Rettungsgerätes ist blockiert.
Das Herausziehen des Innencontainers in alle anderen Richtungen ist problemlos
möglich, zu empfehlen ist die Zugrichtung wie in Abbildung 1.

Erfolgt der Zug zur Auslösung des Rettungsschirm nach schräg vorne oben,
blockiert der Klettverschluss die Öffnung der vorderen Containerblätter

Der Hersteller der Gurtzeuge, Fa.
Skyline Flight Gear GmbH,
erlässt wegen des Vorfalles folgende Sicherheitsmitteilung.
An den Gurtzeugen Skyline "Phase" und "Project Bi" ist der für die Blockade
des Außencontainers verantwortliche Klettverschluss (siehe Abbildung 3)
vom vorderen Eck bis zu Beginn des Griffes (ca 11cm) unwirksam zu machen.
Dies erfolgt wahlweise durch Abtrennen des Klett-Teiles oder mittels
eines Klett-Gegenstücks, das an der bezeichneten Stelle angebracht wird.
