Paraglider from the manufacturer freeX On a paraglider type Stereo from the manufacturer freeX, several upper gallery lines broke during a commercial passenger flight in Turkey. The paraglider was not flyable anymore, thanks to the rescue parachute nobody got hurt. After the investigation it turned out that the paraglider was strongly used and several lines were pre- damaged. Furthermore the lines showed a huge number of thickenings, up to spots where the line core material had come out of the line coat and created loops. The breaking strength test showed a weakening of the concerned lines. In agreement with the manufacturer freeX Air Sports GmbH the DHV has decided on the following precautionary safety measure, according to § 14 LuftBO:
have to be checked regularly if line core material had come out of the line coat. 2. If line core material had come out of the line coat, the complete set of lines has to be checked by the manufacturer, damaged lines have to be replaced. 3. The paragliders of the type Stereo serial numbers C 01 up to C 13 have to be checked by the manufacturer every 12 month. The airworthiness instruction comes into force immediately. The safety measures must be carried out before the next flight with the equipment.
